Jim Beam has always had a presence in the surfing community. Sure, there’s probably been enough Jimmy B swilled at wild Australian summer beach parties to send a rocket to Mars and back 3 times, but did you know that they friendly guys in the Jim Beam office care about the sport of surfing just as much as they do about the sport of drinking?
Want proof? (No, not over-proof….just your average proof).
The lads at Jim Beam have started up an online competition called The Break, aimed at giving amateur surfers in Oz the chance to compete professionally. Alls you have to do to enter is upload a 90 second vid displaying your awesome talents, as well as your personality, and you can have a chance to crack the big-time. The competition hasn’t actually kicked off yet, it starts in July, so you have plenty of time to start gathering some footage. When November 2010 hits, public voting will start, with the winner being award a whopping 50 grand ($AUD) of sponsorship goodness from Jim Beam.
Rip Curl, Sanyo, Tracks and Waves are also apparently on-board too, so this comp really is a big deal, and will be well worth entering if you reckon you’ve got the skills to pay the bills.
Keep up to date with The Break here.

Who was the lucky (and talented) surfer who won this competition?
