This is pretty much the last semi-consistent surfbreak in north Queensland.
Agnes Water is a right-hand point break over a sandy bottom. It’s really the only known surf-break within a couple of hundred kilometres, so if it ain’t breaking here (which is fairly often), then it’s one heck of a mission to the next best option. Having said that, there’s a couple of nice beaches just south of Agnes in the National Park area, not to mention Farnborough which is located 10km north of Yeppoon.
Agnes Water gets best in summer all the way through to June, with long walling rights forming for in NE-SE swells. Can get a bit sharky though, so make sure you keep your wits about you.
There’s also a few secret spots around the islands in this area that on occasion offer great uncrowded waves if you’re keen for a gold-digging mission!
If there’s a big cyclone swell, check Bagara (east of Bundaberg) which generally doesn’t even break, but during the cyclones is a real treat.
