Snapper Rocks is a bit of a barrel machine, hence it’s nickname The Super Bank.
The break is a super long and sucky right-hand point break that is world class when the conditions are right. Generally the break barrels hard from the take-off, and continues racetrack style from start to finish. Snapper gets more swell than it’s little bro down the road, Kirra.
If your legs are up to it, on the right day Snapper Rocks links up across Rainbow Bay and into Greenmount for some super-extended barrel time. The current can get pretty crazy on days like this too, so don’t be surprised to see almost as many people running back along the beach to the jumprock as there are in the water. The rock is also a great vantage point for spectators, so if you decide to stay dry take your camera and tripod, it’s not hard to snap half a dozen amazing shots as those gnarly barrelling waves whiz by like clockwork, just 30 metres in front of you.
Be warned, the crowds here are pretty intense, so keep your cool and respect the locals.
